Top Ten 2014 Debuts I’m Excited For

Texas Authors

The Murder Complex (The Murder Complex, #1)  Side Effects May Vary  The Truth About Alice  Wish You Were Italian

As a Texas girl, I cannot wait to read these debuts by Texas authors! I have met Julie, Jennifer, and Kristin, and they were all so nice. I actually have ARCs of Side Effects May Vary and The Truth About Alice that I begged for at NCTE, but my students have them and are reading them. I’m still so sad that I didn’t get The Murder Complex while I was there! You definitely want to add these titles to your debut author TBR.

Mysteries

Dear Killer  No One Else Can Have You  Nearly Gone  Pointe

I’m not a big mystery reader, but I’m trying to fill that reading gap. All of these stories sound absolutely amazing! I used to be a ballerina, so Pointe sounds interesting to me from that perspective. I was lucky enough to get ARCs of Dear Killer and No One Else Can Have you at NCTE, and both are VERY popular with my students so far!

Contemporaries

Open Road Summer  The Break-Up Artist  Summer on the Short Bus  Something Real  The Promise of Amazing

The summary of Summer on the Short Bus sounds like it could pair nicely with 52 Reasons To Hate My Father. It’ll be interesting to see how the Wren in The Promise of Amazing has a different journey than Wren in The Infinite Moment of Us. For some reason, I’ve been drawn to contemporaries more than other genres lately, and I can’t wait to read some of these contemporaries from debut authors.
